The Master – The Doctor’s Moriarty

Producer Barry Letts and script editor Terrance Dicks created the character of the Master to be a “Moriarty to the Doctor’s Holmes”. The original Master played by Roger Delgado was Machiavellian, charming and deliciously evil. All the Masters since have been fierce and devoted to power. The Master has become increasingly insane and deranged since the Harold Saxon incarnation played by John Simm. This is because of a drumbeat that was retroactively placed inside the Master’s head by the Time Lords when he was a child.

Unfortunately, some women like nasty guys because they think that they can save them.

The Master was married to Lucy Saxon. Unfortunately for nice guys, some women prefer nasty guys instead of us. Lucy Saxon stands by the Master’s side while he conquers the Earth.

The Master ordering the Toclafane to kill the President in The Sound of Drums mirrors when the Master assassinates the President of the Time Lords in The Deadly Assassin.

About Chris Olsen's TARDIS

I am an aspiring television producer, screenwriter and showrunner. I became a childhood fan of the popular BBC TV series Doctor Who at the age of 10, when my parents introduced me to the show upon its return in 2005. I am interested in all things sci-fi, fantasy and geeky, but Doctor Who takes the crown above all else. This website will detail my reviews of various episodes of Doctor Who from throughout its 60-year history. It will also contain content relating to other franchises that I grew up with as a kid, such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.
