Drugs Busts – Illegal Substances in Doctor Who!

Unfortunately, drugs and other illegal substances are still a big problem in our society. However, drug use and drug smuggling have been depicted many times in Doctor Who! But the Doctor himself is too sensible to ever use drugs! I smoked weed a bit at university (including using a bong) and I think cannabis should be legalised for medicinal purposes. And I drank a lot and smoked a lot when I was at university too. I also sometimes had drunk, unprotected sex. I had drunk sex with loads of women at university and I also kissed lots of women and men when I was drunk on nights out. My standard pre-drinks was four cans of cider and a half bottle of Smirnoff, followed by more shots of sambuca in the nightclubs. I even tried absinthe a few times! I once drank almost a litre of vodka in one night at Camp America. Some women have seductively sucked bottles in front of me and told me that they wished this was my cock! I loved playing spin the bottle and the ice cube game. I partied and went clubbing (including strip clubbing) all the way through university and especially when I was in student halls. I was so popular in student halls that my main girlfriend at university said that she felt like the First Lady being with me! I also partied with Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby in a nightclub once. In my first year of university (aged 18), I was going clubbing at least four nights per week but by the time I graduated (aged 21), I was only going out twice a week. I missed loads of university lectures and I sometimes went to university lectures and seminars drunk or hungover! University is basically just 3-5 years of partying, getting drunk, having sex, rows, movies, exams and handing in essays! I didn’t do a lot of clubbing during postgrad and I haven’t been in a nightclub since I was 25. We would sometimes hire VIP areas of clubs and take vodka shots. Colombians at Camp America used to force me and others to down tequila at the beach on days off. There are lots of lazy stereotypes that drugs are rampant in Mexico, Colombia and other South American countries (Breaking Bad)! This is just not true because the vast majority of Colombians and other Hispanics and Latinos have never taken drugs! The US needs to stop its drug war with Colombia because it is based on nothing! At university, I could down alcoholic drinks faster than anyone! I used to down drinks using a conical drinking cup and tube sometimes! I have also gambled in Las Vegas casinos. I don’t drink and I don’t smoke anymore, but I am not boring! Like most people, I got it all out of my system between the ages of 18 to 25 at university etc. I do still enjoy going down the pub sometimes.

Nightmare of Eden

The Fourth Doctor, Romana and K-9 land on a space liner called the Empress (on its way to Azure), which has accidentally collided with a smaller ship (the Hecate) emerging from hyperspace. However, unfortunately someone aboard is smuggling drugs. A group of zoologists led by Professor Tryst visited the planet Eden and one of them brought back a supply of vraxoin, an illegal substance, which intoxicates the captain of the Empress. The ships are soon overrun by Mandrels (native to the planet Eden), which dissolve into vraxoin. The Doctor and Romana decide to separate the two ships, but they are too late to save some of the passengers from being killed by the Mandrels. The Doctor lures the Mandrels through Tryst’s CET (Continual Event Transmuter) Machine back to Eden and off the ship. Tryst (who tries to frame his assistants Della and Stott) and Captain Dymond of the Hecate are unmasked as the drug smugglers that acted together and are arrested by Fisk and Costa.

Torchwood: Children of Earth

★★★★★

One day on Earth, every single child in the world suddenly stops. The children of the world then begin speaking in unison, declaring that an unknown alien force is coming to Earth. The Torchwood team in Cardiff Bay investigate a nearby hospital, where some mysterious deaths might be connected. Captain Jack visits his estranged daughter Alice and his grandson Stephen, to check that they are safe. The UK government destroys the Torchwood Hub in Cardiff Bay (by placing a bomb in Jack’s stomach) to cover up the fact that they conspired with an alien species called the 456 back in 1965. Jack, Gwen and Ianto become fugitives, but they ultimately make it to London where they meet Lois Habiba, a PA to Civil Servant John Frobisher. Frobisher is trying to bury the past dealings between the UK government and the 456, so he ordered the Torchwood Hub to be destroyed. In 1965, Jack and a group of other volunteers sacrificed 12 children to the horrifying aliens, the 456 in exchange for a cure to a deadly virus. Now the 456 have returned and they demand that the governments of the world hand over millions more children to them, which they will then use as recreational drugs! This horrifying revelation shocks Jack and Ianto into confronting the 456 in the MI5 HQ: Thames House, London. However, the 456 releases a virus that kills everyone in the building, including Ianto. Realising that they have been beaten, the UK government prepares to sacrifice millions of children to the 456. Civil Servant John Frobisher is instructed by the Prime Minister to hand over his two daughters, who he kills in a murder/suicide to prevent them from being sacrificed to the 456. Gwen and Rhys return to Wales to save Ianto’s niece and nephew. Jack realises that the 456 broadcast using the children on a specific wavelength. Mr Dekker says that a child is needed to be sacrificed to obtain the right wavelength. Jack reluctantly sacrifices his own grandson Stephen, using the wavelength from him to repel the 456. This ends Jack’s relationship with his daughter Alice. Frobisher’s assistant Bridget Spears, secures the downfall of Prime Minister Brian Green by exposing his hand in the 456’s plot and lets Denise Riley take charge of many governmental affairs, while Lois Habiba (Cush Jumbo) is exonerated. Broken hearted at the loss of both Ianto and Stephen, Jack says goodbye to Rhys and the now pregnant Gwen and he leaves Earth to start a new life. 😢 For me, Torchwood ended with Children of Earth.

About Chris Olsen's TARDIS

I am an aspiring television producer, screenwriter and showrunner. I became a childhood fan of the popular BBC TV series Doctor Who at the age of 10, when my parents introduced me to the show upon its return in 2005. I am interested in all things sci-fi, fantasy and geeky, but Doctor Who takes the crown above all else. This website will detail my reviews of various episodes of Doctor Who from throughout its 60-year history. It will also contain content relating to other franchises that I grew up with as a kid, such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.
