The Seaweed Creature – Something in the Pipeline

The Doctor has fought many aquatic monsters and creatures in Doctor Who, but none more strange than the seaweed creature he encountered in Fury from the Deep. The weed creature manifested itself on an oil rig run by ESGO and it took over human hosts, visibly infecting their arms. The human hosts breathed gas that killed their victims. Thankfully, the Doctor was able to find a way to repel these terrifying monstrosities.

The Second Doctor, Jamie and Victoria land on the sea and make their way to the shore where they find a pipeline leading to an oil refinery. ESGO is having problems in the pipeline so they send various engineers down to investigate. However, the ones that return have been infected by a parasitic seaweed creature. The human hosts Mr Oak and Mr Quill breathe gas on their victims to stun or kill them. Maggie Harris is influenced by the seaweed creature to walk into the water and drown herself. Chief Robson is taken over by the seaweed and he kidnaps Victoria in a helicopter, taking her out to an oil rig owned by ESGO. The Doctor and Jamie pursue them and they confront Robson and the other human hosts infected by the seaweed. Victoria screams and this repels the weed creature. The Doctor realises that they can amplify Victoria’s screams to banish the seaweed creature. The trio return to the oil refinery in the helicopter narrowly dodging giant seaweed along the way. The Doctor uses the equipment at the oil refinery to amplify the sound of Victoria’s screams and this repels the weed creature completely, which retreats back into the sea. Jamie and the Doctor are sad to discover that Victoria, tired of constant danger, has decided to remain on Earth in the company of the Harris family. The Doctor and Jamie return to the TARDIS, but Jamie misses Victoria because he loves her.

About Chris Olsen's TARDIS

I am an aspiring television producer, screenwriter and showrunner. I became a childhood fan of the popular BBC TV series Doctor Who at the age of 10, when my parents introduced me to the show upon its return in 2005. I am interested in all things sci-fi, fantasy and geeky, but Doctor Who takes the crown above all else. This website will detail my reviews of various episodes of Doctor Who from throughout its 60-year history. It will also contain content relating to other franchises that I grew up with as a kid, such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.
